Hello RML Managers! A few Saturday morning musings on the things that amuse, bemuse and confuse a man in the wonderful world of RML......The Creature has never been one to shy away from bold statements and that isn't going to change now. So the Creature solemly decrees that the Philadelphia Phillies, winners of 4 of the past 5 NL East Pennants, and the Toronto Blue Jays, defending World Series Champions, are officially dead for the 2004 season. It is early, yes, but these are unhealthy teams.......The AL West Division used to be perennially known as the weakest division in baseball, but no more. There are five teams in that one division (Seattle, Texas, Oakland, Anaheim, KC) that the Creature considers as legit World Series contenders. In the cruel world of the RML however, only one shall make the playoffs......Which is why I love this league. There are no wild-cards to reward mediocrity......Staying in the AL West, the Seattle Mariners are still the favoutites, but that could change. This division is so tight that whoever wins out at the trading deadline could end up winning it all......The Creature officially rescinds his pre-season prediction that the Giants could be 'the best team in RML history'. That statement was based on the expectation of a strong offence (which has materialized) combined with solid pitching (which definitely has not). I had high hopes for the 1-2 bullpen combo of Rob Nenn and free-agent signee Mariano Rivera (which has had mixed results). But most disapointing of all is young starter Dirk Parkerson (6.30 era), whom I expected great things from this season. Which is not to say that they can't still win the division, but as things stand they certainly don't look good enough..........HEROES: Anaheim Angels GM, P-A THIBAULT- More than anything, he has transformed the Angels into a threat.......ZEROES: TORONTO BLUE JAYS- They have their World Series rings and suddenly are playing like they don't care anymore |
