Hello RML Managers! A few Saturday morning musings on the things that amuse, bemuse and confuse a man in the wonderful world of RML....The deadline was fairly active this year, with three trades that may or may not shake up the pennant races.....The juiciest is San Francisco which acquired $11 million starter Denny Neagle from the Phils for draft picks. New Philly GM Patrick O'Keefe has to be happy to be rid of Neagle's contract. The only way this deal pays off for the Giants is if they make the playoffs this year. Otherwise two years down the road they may curse they day they made this deal. It was a gutsy move by GM Ricci Stevens to pull the trigger on this one though......In the AL West, the Rangers tried to break free of the logjam by acquiring former Rookie of the Year reliever Orber Moreno from the Padres. This is exactly what Texas needed to help their battered bullpen. Whether it is enough is another matter....The Expos acquired an aging Albert Belle from the Blue Jays in hopes that he can come up with a big pinch hit when needed. But with Ben McDonald out for the season, the Creature has his doubts about Montreal's chances. This trade is more notable for the fact that it is a clear concession from the defending Champion Toronto Blue Jays that they are throwing in the towel for 2004.....HEROES: Texas Rangers starter KENT MERCKER- Where the hell did you come from?.....ZEROES: L.A GM JOSEF SKROCH- With that rotation, there is no reason the Dodgers shouldn't be first |
