WORLD SERIES: TORONTO (104-58) vs. ATLANTA (104-58) OFFENCE: The Braves have a great offence. They have speed at the top of the order in Furcal and Lofton followed by a contingent of sluggers to drive them in. But no offence in the entire league compares to the Blue Jays. There are lots of five tool players on this team, resulting in 974 runs scored during the season. What's more, one gets the feeling that many of the players were only getting hot as the playoffs approached. ADVANTAGE: BLUE JAYS PITCHING: After ranking 1st in pitching last season, the Toronto pitchers were rocked early in 2003. Ed Yarnall and Billy Wagner both had horrendous Aprils and only managed to partly recover. But in the second half, this staff reverted back to form and propelled the Jays past Baltimore down the stretch. But nothing compares to Atlanta's pitching. In a year when the Braves dealt away Greg Maddux to Texas, their pitching became...better. It all goes back to a plethora of depth and a man named Pedro. ADVANTAGE: BRAVES OVERALL: This is a rematch of last year's thrilling seven game World Series which saw Atlanta take home the World Series trophy. Both of these teams have a lot in common; their records are identical and they both overcame teams within their division (Baltimore and San Francisco) that seemed to be uncatchable back in June. Both these teams have proven time and time again that they have the heart to win and it'll be damn hard to choose a winner. But nonetheless....BLUE JAYS IN SEVEN |
